CS2 skin fundamentals
Understanding CS2 skins
CS2 skins are cosmetic finishes associated with in-game items. They can differ by rarity, wear category, float value, pattern and applied stickers.
Cosmetic items, not guaranteed investments
A skin changes appearance rather than gameplay capability. Marketplace interest and prices can change, so historical activity or rarity does not guarantee a future price.
Condition and float
Exterior labels describe broad wear categories. Float is a more precise numerical value used for many items. Two listings with the same exterior label may therefore show different visible wear.
Patterns, stickers and special status
Some finishes vary according to pattern data. Listings may also identify applied stickers and whether an item has StatTrak or Souvenir status. Confirm every attribute on the individual item rather than relying on a search thumbnail.
How to compare listings
- Match the exact item and finish.
- Check exterior and float.
- Inspect pattern and sticker details.
- Separate the displayed item price from any additional marketplace charges.
- Confirm current platform terms and delivery steps.
Before making a decision
Decide what attributes matter to you, compare more than one relevant listing and treat prices as current marketplace information rather than a promise. Continue with the CS2 skin trading guide.
